"Run: Your Personal Guide to Winning Public Office should be a part of every community and academic library Political Science reference collection and supplemental studies list in the country." -Library Bookwatch, midwestbookreview.com

"At a time in American history when fingers are being pointed at both parties, accusing government officials and belittling candidates, Run is a breath of fresh air that hearkens back to the pride Americans first felt for their country. Every concerned American would benefit from reading a copy" -Donna Ford, RECOMMENDED by the US Review

RUN, by former Senator Marian Walsh
By russel pergament
This account of how to fashion a winning campaign for public office - from someone who did exactly that despite overwhelming odds against her is - unusual, perhaps even unique, in that Ms Walsh gets directly into the nuts and bolts of helping you define to the voters why you aspire to public office and helps you craft in forthright, honest but crowd-pleasing language the reasons why voters should support your candidacy. This former Massachusetts senator gets right into the nuts and bolts of the mechanics of an actual campaign operation...short on theory but deep into the how-tos about attracting, motivating, and carefully directing the volunteers whose enthusiasm is essential to any campaign, especially an insurgent one.

With so many politicians entrenched in their seats for decades it will be refreshing to see new names emerge and energize the generally corrosive and crony-ridden political sphere. If you've ever considered, toyed with, the idea of throwing your hat in the ring then this headfirst immersion into the realities of retail politics will be time well spent.

Both inspiring and practical
By Mark
At a time when so many people feel government is either inept or the enemy, and politicians are either fools or knaves, along comes this book that simply but eloquently restores hope and empowers. Marian Walsh's dedication to public service and to the notion of citizen democracy, combined with her down to earth pragmatism about what it takes to run for political office and win, makes this the perfect book for anyone thinking of throwing their hat into the ring. If you're wondering if you should run for office, and aren't sure how, this book is the perfect combination of cheerleader and coach.

Running for Office, Successfully
By Capt. Ed Burns
I confidently predict that this primer (pronounced "primmer') on tossing your hat into the ring will change a lot of hearts from almost certainly being broken to almost certainly remaining un-broken. It won't change the number of broken hearts. That will stay the same. And I'm not talking about the hearts of the candidates. If you think you can keep your heart un-broken while you are pursuing a life in politics then move along, there's nothing I can say or do for you. No, I'm talking about the hearts of the families and closest friends of those who get it into their head to try and run for public office. This book will simply change which of two categories the families of future office-seekers will fall into: the families of the failed office-seekers (those who didn't read the book and thereby condemned their closest friends and families to toil, tears and ultimate public rejection); and the families of the well-read and successful office-seekers who will have used their hearts (both those of the candidate and those of the families of the candidate) towards understanding the constituency.

Sen. Walsh beguiles the would-be candidate early on by having them list various categories of achievements they have already accomplished in life. Then, sketching out the nuts and bolts of the nascent successful political organization, the good senator shows us how and why a lot of little tasks must be done to become victorious on election night. By means of these, and many more sophisticated inter-active exercises, the reader develops a self-confidence which she comes to realize is actually justified and is not simply a whipped up confection of aerated brio, liberally sprinkled with false bravado. Confidence is truly the name of the came in politics. When you didn't have it, that was before you read "RUN" and got elected. When you have too much, in the minds of the electorate, ultimately they'll vote for someone they like. That's the thing about politics - - there's no such thing as "market share". On election night you've either got "all the marbles" or you've got nothing, except a good education. You'll also get a good education, and some civics lessons every American can use, by immersing yourself in Sen. Walsh's "Run". And if you've paid close attention, and truly done your homework, you've got a much better chance of winding up with "all the marbles" too. Good luck !
